The BioShield Method, an affordable, biological-based (green) cleaning method for workplace infection control. The BioShield Method uses a combination of new technology and traditional technology to scientifically reduce infection levels and the risk of cross-contamination in the workplace.

Plainfield, NH (Vocus) August 17, 2010

Herrin Enterprises, a facilities-cleaning company that has served residential and commercial customers in the Upper Valley of New Hampshire and Vermont since 1985, today announced The BioShield Method, an affordable, biological-based (green) cleaning method for workplace infection control. The BioShield Method uses a combination of new technology and traditional technology to scientifically reduce infection levels and the risk of cross-contamination in the workplace.

The BioShield Method is designed to augment, not replace, existing janitorial cleaning services. After adding BioShield 75 to their existing janitorial service, most facilities will pay more or less the same amount as for janitorial services alone, because BioShield reduces the cost of janitorial supplies and other costs.

Herrin Enterprises also today announced The BioShield Challenge, under which the company, at no charge, will test the infection levels in any Upper Valley business.

“Janitorial cleaning methods do a good job at making a facility look good and smell good,” said Rodd Herrin, founder, owner and president of Herrin Enterprises. “But they don’t clean deep enough into the dirt to kill all the germs* in those places that everyone touches, like door handles, light switches, telephones, and computer keyboards. These cross-contamination ‘hot spots’ are the places where employees and customers pick up illnesses. The BioShield Method concentrates on these hot spots and makes the workplace a lot healthier, at low cost or no additional cost.”

To demonstrate the dangers of hot spots, the company recently performed a secret field test in the public areas at a major hospital. They tested five hot spots at random. Only one passed; the other four were several times higher than the maximum safe levels.

“Most businesses – even those with diligent cleaning programs – are unaware of the real risks in their environments. That’s why we are challenging them to find out by offering them free testing,” said Rodd Herrin.

The BioShield Method

The BioShield Method consists of four steps:

Test: Conduct on-site tests of surface cleanliness using adenosine triphosphate (ATP).

Demonstrate: Monitor and report on surface cleanliness using ongoing testing and data compilation.

Improve: Strengthen the existing cleaning methods by (1) steam-cleaning surfaces on-site; (2) immersion-cleaning portable items (for example, keyboards) off-site; and (3) applying BioShield 75®, a patented biostatic inhibitor that kills microbes for up to 90 days, even while additional dirt is accumulating (most disinfectants don’t even last one hour).

Regulate: Tailor a solution for regulating and maintaining a bio-safe environment, based on the workplace’s characteristics, traffic and hot spots.

The BioShield Method can disinfect and protect virtually any surface or object, from telephones, electronic keyboards, hospital bedside remotes, wheelchairs and other portable objects, to furniture, stadium seats and shelving, to sports equipment, bedding and daycare toys. These hot spots often carry infection levels that are far higher than the maximum safe levels, the company said.

The BioShield Method serves the needs of several markets: manufacturing, retail, hospitality, healthcare, entertainment, sports, education, and day care centers – as well as any office environment.

“Keene Medical Products has had the carry cases for our rental equipment and the very soiled wheelchairs cleaned using Herrin Enterprises’ BioShield Method for the past few years,” said Michael Richardson, service department manager for Keene Medical Products, Inc., of Lebanon, NH. “Both look new once they have been cleaned, and the BioShield methods used enhance our Infection Control Program.”

*Microbes, including bacteria, viruses, algae and mold.

BioShield®75 Benefits:

Easy to use…

Inexpensive…

Lasts 90+ days…

Keeps those you care about healthy…

Non – Toxic…

Will NOT create “Super Bugs”…

How does it work?

The easiest example I can give you about the power of BioShield®75 is this:

Clean a      surface with your traditional cleaner;

Spray on BioShield<sup>®</sup>75 and let dry;

And for a minimum of 90 days, every swine flu microbe that lands on the surface dies instantly!

I know it sounds crazy and you’re thinking “How can that be”, or “Why haven’t I heard of this before”…well, I’ll tell ya.

How can that be?

The active ingredient (Organosilane) in BioShield®75 forms a colorless, odorless, completely non-toxic, positively charged polymer, which chemically bonds to the surface it’s sprayed on and modifies the surface to make it antimicrobial active.

This creates a bed of “microscopic spikes” that pierce the cell walls of microbes.

Visualize it as a bed of nails.

When a microorganism comes in contact with the treated surface, the nails puncture the cell membrane and an electrical charge shocks the cell, killing the microbe instantly!

And once BioShield®75 dries on a surface, it will not wash off. Clean as you regularly do and for the next 90+ days, it’s there, protecting the surface from the microscopic “critters” intent on infecting you, your family, your pets.

Conventional Cleaners

Conventional antimicrobial products penetrate living cells by poisoning the organism. They are designed to act and dissipate quickly to avoid adverse effects to humans and animals due to their toxic ingredients.

But, since BioShield®75’s methodology is mechanical instead of a poison, it does not create super bugs that build up resistance to treatment. What about toxicity? When wet, BioShield®75 is only as toxic as 1/10th of an aspirin. And once dry? COMPLETELY NON-TOXIC!!

And unlike antibiotics and hand sanitizers, bacteria CAN NOT build up an immunity to BioShield®75!! How can that be, you ask? Because it kills bacteria “mechanically” by impaling the microbe on microscopic spikes, its’ patented formula is immune to Swine Flu’s ever-changing strains.

And speaking of patents, BioShield®75 has five of them, with three more pending. It has eight EPA Registrations and the only protectant that has an acceptance letter from the USDA. Don’t be fooled by imitators!

So, Contact Us today and let us show you how to keep your school, office, restaurant or home a Flu-Free Zone.

Re: BioShield 75 Swine Flu Efficacy, etc

Dr. Esposito,

The mechanical efficacy of this molecule has been successfully displayed over a 30 year period. The molecule of BioShield 75 and ProShield 5000D works by forming a permanent microbiostatic film on a substrate and then creates a bed of microscopic spikes that pierce the cell membrane of microbes that come into contact with a treated surface. The molecule then releases an electrical charge that electrocutes positive and negative charged microbes. This “twin effect” prevents these microbes from further growth or reproduction, without creating “superbugs”.

The CDC has recently stated that antimicrobials that have been shown to be effective against viruses like Influenza A. The CDC further stated that antimicrobials that are effective against Influenza A will be effective against the H1N1 virus.

In as much as the H1N1 virus is a subtype of Influenza virus A and is structurally similar, it is our considered opinion that BioShield 75 and ProShield 5000D will be very effective in limiting the growth of the microbes that carry H1N1.

BioShield 75 is effective in stopping the growth of bacteria, mold and fungi. The molecule in BioShield 75 has been tested effectively against many viruses. While BioShield 75 is effective against most viruses, it is not effective against Norovirus and the canine parvovirus because of their unique molecular construction. They do not have the typical protein coat or fatty envelope typically associated with most viruses and that are easily punctured by BioShield 75’s microscopic spikes.

Once BioShield 75 has been allowed to dry on a given surface (usually three to five minutes) it will remain on the surface for an extended period of time. We recommend replacing it every 90 days on touch points that are cleaned daily. Normal cleaning products do not affect BioShield 75; it can only be broken down by abrasion. We assume some abrasion will take place from normal daily cleaning.

[...]

Sincerely,

Tom Davis

August 2, 2006

Mr. Joeseph E. Mason, President
IndusCo, LTD
2319 Joe Brown Drive
Greensboro, NC 27405

This is a response to your notification (Log 06-NT 0215-N-A) dated June 9, 2006, requesting approval of BioShield 75 to be used in any Food Safety Inspection Services (FSIS) establishments as a sanitizing agent.

On July 18, 2006, representatives from Indusco met with the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) to present their technology and request a letter of “no objection” for the use of BioShield 75 solution on federally inspected establishments as a sanitizing agent.

BioShield 75 is a stable aqueous solution of Organosilane Quaternary Ammonium that is intended to be applied to food contact and non-food contact materials, e.g., floors, drains, tables, cutting boards, slicers, etc., followed by a wash and rinse. BioShield 75 has strong bonding capabilities upon application to various materials. Thus, the use of BioShield 75 results in a durable coating that is effective in eliminating and preventing growth of bacteria, mold, and fungi. BioShield 75 is registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

FSIS has completed its review of the information submitted supporting BioShield 75 as a sanitizing agent and has no objection to the use of BioShield 75 as FSIS regulated establishments as a sanitizing agent. This letter should not be considered as validation that BioShield 75 will be effective in any particular FSIS establishment.

On October 20, 1999, USDA published in the Federal Register, a Final Rule entitled “Sanitation Requirements for Official Meat and Poultry Establishment”. This rule consolidates the sanitation regulations into a single part applicable to both official meat and poultry plants, eliminates unnecessary differences between the sanitation requirements for meat and poultry processing, and converts many of the highly prescriptive sanitation requirements to performance standards. Among the prescriptive sanitation requirements that were eliminated was the regulation (Title 9, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Section 381.60) requiring the authorization of non-food compounds by USDA, prior to their use in a Federally inspected meat or poultry establishment. The new sanitation regulations (9 CFR, Section 416.4) state that non-food compounds and processing aids used by an establishment must be safe and effective under the conditions of use.

The establishment must have documentation on file substantiating the safety of a chemical’s use in a food processing environment and this documentation must be available to FSIS inspection program employees for review. The documentation may be in teh form of a manufacturer’s or supplier’s letter of guaranty or a third party authorty’s certification that the compound is safe according to some established safety criteria and, as proposed for use will have no deleterious effects on meat and poultry being processed. A manufacturer’s or supplier’s letter of guaranty should contain the following information: 1) name and address of the supplier; 2) brand name, code name, or other designation; 3) statement of safety and efficacy; 4) statement of compliance with U.S. Federal regulations (if applicable); 5) use directions; and 6) signature of an authorized firm representative.

FSIS does not object to the proposed use of BioShield 75 to treat food contact and non-food contact materials in meat and poultry establishments. Those establishments, who use BioShield 75, are to be supplied with the following information:

Information to support the safety of the product when in contact with BioShield 75 solution in food processing environments.

Copy of EPS’s registration Certificate

If you have any further questions, please contact Dr. Kris Murthy at (202) 690-5646 or kris.murthy (at) fsis.usda.gov.

Sincerely,
